Otjandaue Hunting Safaris Namibia

Africa Hunting Safari

Otjandaue Hunting Safaris welcomes you to this beautiful private property of 10 000 Ha ( 24700 Acres) or 38 sqm that lies in central Namibia. Your hosts is Roy & Janet van der Merwe with there two daughters Rune & Kaylin. Otjandaue pronounced ( Ot-jan-dowe) is the home to a variety of plains game species. The ranch is situated 20 km north east of a small town called Omaruru and is about 2 ½ hours drive from the international airport and 2 hours drive from the West coast and three hours drive from the Etosha National Park. We offer exclusive hunting to our clients where they can hunt in comfort and not feel any pressure from other hunters unknown to them meaning that you alone or you as a group can enjoy hunting this property all by yourself. We accommodate up to four hunters per hunting trip. The property is enclosed with a high fence due to the variety of plains game species we have unknown to this area and all our animals are free roaming within the 24 700 acres. Huntable game species available at Otjandaue is Oryx, Kudu, Warthog, Steenbuck, Duiker, Red Hartebeest, Blue Wildebeest, Black Wildebeest, Waterbuck, Eland, Springbok, Impala, Dik-Dik, Jackals, Baboon, Giraffe, Blesbuck and Mountain Zebra. Predators like Leopard, Cheetah, Caracal and Brown Hyena also move through the property but cannot be guaranteed. We have two hunting concessions adjacent to us that consist of 40 755 Acres that we can utilize should there be a need for it. Hunting is done by spot and stalk from the vehicle in the mornings and sitting in blinds at water holes in the afternoon. We can also walk and spot but the hunter has to be fit and have enough hunting days available for this type of hunting. For the hunters that have difficulty with walking we can adjust our hunting methods by shooting from the vehicle in the mornings, it's also not an easy hunt due to the size and the bush of the property and hunters can expect a challenge shooting from the vehicle.

We recommend a .308 as minimum caliber for our area. The average shot is about 80 m (87, 2 yards) to 150 m (163 yards) but the occasional shot of 200 m (218 yards) may occur. We use fully equipped Toyota Land Cruisers as our hunting vehicles that makes the loading of trophies easier and has no damaging effect on the trophies. We also offer a 30-06 or 8 x 57 Mauser for hire should you need to make use of that service.

Our hunting season starts form the 1st of February to the 30th of November. We recommend hunting from April to November just after the rainy season. May to August is our winter months where you can expect temperatures of 2 °C (35.6 °F) early mornings to 25 °C (77 °F) mid afternoon. September to November you can expect temperatures of 25° (77 °F) to 39 °C (102.2 °F). It can be very cold in the mornings on the vehicle on the way to the hunting terrain or on the way back in the evenings so please bring cover-alls or appropriate clothing. It does warm up very quickly in the mornings so don't over-dress, gloves is also advised for winter mornings.

We clean and prepare bagged trophies for the taxidermist or Freight Company. We recommend that you compare prices and quality of your local taxidermist with the prices of the taxidermist we recommend. We use IFN as our Freight Company and Erongo Taxidermy as the taxidermists, there delivery time is about 4- 6 months from the date that they received your trophies.

We recommend flying with Lufthansa from your country if available to Frankfurt and with Air Namibia from Frankfurt to Namibia. Lufthansa has a baggage agreement with Air Namibia so you can book your rifles straight through to Namibia without any problems. Another option is flying over London. We strongly recommend that you try to avoid flying through South Africa due to there strict arms rules and the high theft that occurs at JHB International. We have had several hunters loose luggage or rifles through South Africa and it can create unnecessary uncomfort for you.

For the hunters interested in experiencing a night or two in the bush with his PH we can put up a camp with tents. Food will be made the traditional way over open fire where a lot of talk can take place, this truly is a different experience from staying in the lodge and can be arranged without any extra charge or effort. We truly want your africa hunting safari to be a memorable experience. The bush camp has a toilet and a shower with warm water under a huge Camel Thorn tree and tents will be put up.
